Photo exhibition “Physical Education and Sport in Romania until 1945” at ParkLake

Between July 26 and August 11, the Summer Olympic Games are held in Paris, which attract the attention of the entire planet. Interest in sports and the extraordinary ability of the human body to push its physical limits dates back a very long time. If you wonder what athletes looked like more than a hundred years ago or what sports were practiced in Romania during the interwar period, we invite you to visit the exhibition “Physical Education and Sport in Romania until 1945”, made by the National Archives of Romania .

It highlights sport and physical education at various levels through both formal and informal activities. Various types of sports practiced at both professional and amateur levels are also highlighted. The documents presented in the exhibition refer to the following aspects: physical education in schools; sport as leisure; sports competitions; sports associations; personalities who contributed to the development of sport and performance athletes; the sports press and its contribution to the propagation of sports; the labor sports movement and the rural sports movement; the Olympic movement in Romania; central institutions and official policies of the Romanian state in the sports field; illustrative images of athletes and sporting events.
